Jari Huttunen is Principal System Architect for thermal management and Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Nokia. He received M.Sc. degree in energy technology, heat transfer and fluid dynamics in 1998 from the Lappeenranta University of Technology. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in energy and environmental engineering at the University of Oulu. Jari has worked with Nokia since 1997 with various thermal management projects and research.

Juha Ala-Laurinaho

Juha Ala-Laurinaho, Aalto University

Juha Ala-Laurinaho works as a Staff Scientist in the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering at Aalto University. He received his M.Sc. (Tech.) degree in mathematics and D.Sc. (Tech.) degree in electrical engineering from TKK Helsinki University of Technology (currently Aalto University) in 1995 and 2001, respectively. Dr. Ala-Laurinaho has been a researcher and a project manager in several antenna development projects for various applications. He has co-authored more than 250 journal and conference papers. His current research interests include antennas and their calibration and measurement techniques for wide frequency spectrum up to THz frequencies.

Jussi Rahola

Practical experiences from realistic inductor and capacitor models in circuit synthesis

Jussi Rahola, Optenni

Jussi Rahola obtained the M.Sc. (Tech.) and D.Sc. (Tech.) degrees in applied mathematics from Aalto University (former Helsinki University of Technology) in 1990, and 1996, respectively. The topic of his dissertation was the solution of large dense systems of linear equations of electromagnetics using iterative solvers and the fast multipole method. From 1989 to 1999 he was working as an application specialist and a development manager in CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd, Finland. During 1997-1998 he also worked in CERFACS, Toulouse, France as a post-doctoral researcher in the field of computational electromagnetics. From 2000 to 2009 he worked in Nokia Research Center and Nokia Devices R&D as a senior research engineer, research manager and principal scientist in the field of antenna research. In 2009 he founded Optenni Ltd for developing the Optenni Lab circuit synthesis software. He has over 30 publications in international journals and conference proceedings. His research interests include antennas, circuit simulation, impedance matching, computational electromagnetics and numerical mathematics.

Nereo Markulic

Nereo Markulić received M.Sc. degree (2012) from University of Zagreb, Croatia, and a Ph.D. degree (2018) summa cum laude from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. His Ph.D. work was in collaboration with imec, Leuven, Belgium on Digital Subsampling Phase-Locked Loops (PLLs) and Polar Transmitters.

He is currently a principal member of technical staff at imec, working on RF and mixed-signal circuits for radar applications and next generation connectivity. He has authored and co-authored publications and patents on PLLs and analog-to-digital converters and two books on frequency synthesis. He is a co-recipient of ISSCC 2019 Outstanding Paper Lewis Winner Award and CICC 2023 Outstanding Invited Paper award. Dr. Nereo Markulić currently serves on the Technical Program Committee of the IEEE VLSI Circuits symposium and European Solid-State Electronics Research Conference (ESSERC).

Matti Kuosmanen is currently working with Saab Finland Oy, Helsinki, as an RF Engineer. He received the B.Sc. (Tech.) and M.Sc. (Tech.) degrees in electrical engineering from Aalto University, Espoo, Finland, in 2019 and 2021, respectively. Since 2021, he has been pursuing the D.Sc. (Tech.) degree with Saab Finland, and the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering, School of Electrical Engineering, Aalto University. His professional and research interests include wideband antenna arrays, novel manufacturing techniques, and the integration of microwave components.

Mikko Varonen

Mikko Varonen received the M.Sc. and D.Sc. (with distinction) degrees in electrical engineering from the Aalto University in 2002 and 2010, Finland, respectively. In 2011, he was a NASA Postdoctoral Program Fellow with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), in Pasadena, California. From 2013 to 2016, he was a Post-Doctoral Researcher and the Academy of Finland Post-Doctoral Researcher with the Department of Micro- and Nanosciences, Aalto University. During his Post-Doctoral Fellowship, he was a Visiting Scientist with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Electrical Engineering Department, Caltech, and the Fraunhofer Institute of Applied Solid-State Physics, Freiburg, Germany. He is currently a Research Team Leader at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Espoo, where he held the Academy of Finland Research Fellow post during 2017 to 2022. His current research interests include the development of RF and millimeter-wave integrated circuits using both silicon and compound semiconductor technologies for applications ranging from astrophysics and earth remote sensing to millimeter-wave communications and quantum computing.

Antti Rauhala, CoreHW. VP Engineering, CoreHW. Received the M.Sc in Electrical Engineering in Helsinki University of Technology, former Aalto University in 1996. During and after graduation he worked at Nokia Mobile Phones, Salo as Design Engineer. His MSc work was RFIC transmitter for Nokia’s Direct Conversion solution. Up to 2007 Antti was part of Nokia RF & RFIC team. In 2007 RF and Analog IC development was sold to STMicroelectronics. During the years 2008 – 2015 he was working for couple of different companies on the same RF & Analog fields leading the RFIC R&D teams. 2015 he joined with the team to LG Electronics, Finland Lab leading there the RFIC team. Since 2021 Antti has been part of Finnish CoreHW Oy serving global customers in RF, Analog & Digital related projects and also developing CoreHW own semiconductor and system products.

Janne P. Aikio was born in Haukipudas, Finland, in 1977. He received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Oulu, Oulu, Finland, in 2002 and 2007, respectively. He is currently a Senior Research Fellow with the University of Oulu. His technical interests lie in the field of millimeter-wave integrated power amplifiers, linearization techniques and modeling and analysis of distortion of RF power amplifiers.

Lauri Anttila received the D.Sc. degree (with Hons.) from the Tampere University of Technology, Tampere, Finland, in 2011. Since 2016, he has been a Senior Research Fellow with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tampere University. His research interests are in radio communications and signal processing, with a focus on the radio implementation challenges in systems such as 5G/6G, large-scale antenna systems, full-duplex radio, and integrated sensing and communication systems. He has co-authored 5 book chapters and more than 160 international journal and conference papers in these areas.

Jani Kallankari (m), Chief Scientist, BSc (Physics), has 15 years of experience in the field of wireless testing and OTA testing development. He is responsible of Verkotan test system design and analysis of test results. He has worked as a Principal Engineer in the field of OTA testing in Nokia and in Microsoft. RF and Modem area functionality and performance are Jani’s specialties in the test system development.
